What differentiates one skilled nursing & rehabilitation center from another? The answer is... the people who work and reside there! The people set the tone, the atmosphere, and the expectations. At The Laurels of Canton, we take great pride in ensuring that everyone feels like part of our family and that they are treated as special "guests" in our home.

The Laurels of Canton employs a team of highly qualified medical professionals, including a Medical Director, Registered Nurses, Restorative Care Nurses, a Wound Care Nurse, state tested Certified Nursing Assistants, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and a Speech Therapist. Our on-site Rehab, Dietary, Social Work, and Activities departments provide personalized and compassionate care to each guest. From the moment you walk through the front doors, the warmth and caring of the staff will begin to gain your trust and confidence, as they strive to exceed your expectations.

Unlike other facilities that use "contracted" staff members, each member of the team at The Laurels of Canton is directly employed, not "contracted". Each Team Member takes great pride in portraying "The Laurel Way of Caring", as they strive for excellence in providing only the highest standard of care and services to every guest, and to every family member and visitor. Shelly Fink, LNHA


Shelly has been in the health care industry for 25 years and brings a wealth of experience to The Laurels of Canton. She attended Kent State University majoring in Gerontology and Nursing Home Administration. Her experiences range from independent living, assisted living as well as skilled rehab and long term care. Shelly got her passion for caring for the elderly when she helped with her grandparents especially her grandfather with Alzheimer’s. It was through this experience that she found her calling and has enjoyed her journey in health care helping to ensure quality of care and services for every family and guest. Shelly has spent numerous volunteer hours and sponsorship support in the community for organizations close to her heart, such as, the Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Association,  and the Heart Association. We are thrilled for Shelly to be leading the team of professionals at Canton.

Janet Long, RN BSN WCC

Director of Nursing

We are excited to have Janet Long as part of our Laurels of Canton team. Janet brings with her over 17 years of experience in management and long-term care. As a Canton native since 1989, she started her career in nursing at Kent State University where she graduated from their RN program. In 2015, she added to her qualifications by becoming wound-care certified.

Janet knew she was destined for nursing when her father became ill and she supported him through his extended stays in nursing facilities. Prior to accepting the DON position with us, she served as a corporate regional nurse for area nursing facilities where she utilized her expertise to train and educate nursing teams.

Janet prides herself and her team on providing some of the best, quality care in the Canton area.

Tara Janson, PTA

Rehab Services Director

Tara has been in the healthcare industry for over 16 years and brings outstanding knowledge and compassion to the Laurels of Canton. She graduated from Stark State College with an Associate’s of Applied Science in Physical Therapy, with concentrations in dementia care. She also holds a Certificate of Gerontology. From a young age, Tara knew she wanted to spend her time caring for others in order to help them heal. She started in the industry as a pharmacy tech and went on to be an STNA. It was during her STNA experience that she realized working in nursing facilities was where she wanted to focus. Tara believes in making sure she and her outstanding therapy team provide the best quality care in order to help promote increased mobility and function for each guest. In her free time, she enjoys going to concerts, reading and spending time with her daughter, cat and two dogs.

Tracy Lilly, LPN

Director of Marketing

Tracy has worked in long term care for over 25 years, helping families and guests make educated and informed decisions about their care. She has worked in several care settings, ranging from independent living, short term rehab, assisted living and long term care. This experience helps her take each person and their loved ones through the admissions process, step by step, to make the transition to skilled nursing care as easy as possible. She has a passion for working with seniors and educating the community as a whole on issues that are important in long term care. Tracy also serves in the Air Force as a Reservist and has been a military member for the past 8 years. We are excited to have her as a part of The Laurels of Canton and Massillon
